Plans Announced for Expanded Brigant Campus Facilities in the United Kingdom
The University of Brigant has announced phased plans to expand physical campus facilities in Edinburgh EH1 2NG, UK, supporting learners who choose on-campus delivery alongside our global online community. The development prioritises study space, innovation labs, student welfare, and sustainable building standards rather than large-scale residential expansion.
Phase one, scheduled for completion in autumn 2026, adds 120 additional library study seats, four group project rooms with hybrid conferencing equipment, and a dedicated student welfare hub staffed by trained advisors in partnership with the Students' Union. Architects emphasised natural lighting, acoustic privacy for online learners joining synchronous sessions from campus, and wheelchair accessibility exceeding minimum regulatory requirements.
Phase two introduces innovation labs for computing, health simulation, and business entrepreneurship modules that include optional in-person components. Equipment lists were co-designed with programme leaders to align with module specifications already published online — campus attendance remains optional for most qualifications, and online alternatives persist where equipment access is not essential to outcome achievement.
Sustainability targets include rooftop solar supplementation, rainwater harvesting for landscaping, and passive cooling strategies reducing reliance on mechanical ventilation. Brigant committed to publishing embodied carbon estimates and post-occupancy energy performance data — transparency measures requested by student environmental societies during consultation.
Financing combines institutional reserves, philanthropic gifts, and a low-interest infrastructure loan. Governing board minutes (summarised publicly) record approval contingent on not diverting funds from student support services or tuition-free online delivery commitments.
On-campus tuition fees remain published separately on the fees page. Scholarships for campus-based study continue through the Pay It Forward fund and regional bursaries listed in the financial aid guide. Online learners who never visit campus will see no change in their fee structure.
Community engagement included a town hall with local residents addressing traffic, evening noise, and partnership opportunities with regional employers for internships. A liaison officer will coordinate quarterly updates with the municipal council.
Prospective campus students may register interest through admissions@brigant.uk to receive open day invitations. Virtual campus tours will be updated monthly as construction progresses.
Brigant's identity remains dual: a tuition-free online university for the world, and a growing physical presence for learners who benefit from face-to-face intensity. This expansion honours both missions without compromising either.
