Design, manufacture, and innovate physical systems
Online or on campus

Mechanical Engineering combines theory with workshop practice on campus. You will study statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, and computer-aided design. Projects include designing functional prototypes using 3D printing and CNC equipment in the Engineering Workshop. Sustainability and energy efficiency are emphasised throughout the curriculum.
Final-year teams compete in the Brigant Design Challenge judged by industry engineers.
Faculty spotlight
Professor Ian Campbell leads Thermodynamics; Dr. Sofia Petrov supervises sustainable design projects.
Study online
Every programme can be completed fully online with zero tuition fees — study from anywhere in the world.

On-campus study
Prefer to learn at our Edinburgh campus? On-campus delivery includes tuition fees, in-person seminars, and access to university facilities.
