Honest credit mapping between RQF and SCQF—not automatic listing on the SCQF database.
Online or on campus

Credit frameworks are not a universal translator. A Level 7 RQF claim that is waved at an SCQF Level 11 audience without a method is how partnerships later fail. This PGCert starts with method: learning outcomes, notional hours, assessment volume, and the difference between internal mapping and a credit-rating body’s decision. University of Brigant is Ofqual-facing in the sense that students must become literate in regulated-qualification language; it does not employ you at Ofqual and it does not automatically enter programmes on the SCQF. Dual-pathway parity matters because online students are often the ones writing the mapping memos at 11 p.m. They sit the same assessments as Edinburgh campus students. The award is a postgraduate certificate, not a licence to rate other providers. Capstones are mapping dossiers on a named (or tightly anonymised) programme, with an honest ‘what this mapping is not’ section. Edinburgh campus sessions use the same mapping templates as the tuition-free online pathway, including residual-risk columns that forbid ‘equivalent to SCQF listed’ language. Faculty will fail a dossier that treats notional hours as a fiction and descriptors as wallpaper. Scottish applicants deserve that honesty as much as rUK partnership managers. PGCert RQF/SCQF Mapping and Credit Practice is taught as one award, not a list of unrelated modules. The published length is 9 months, and the credit total is 15. Students move from RQF Descriptors and Volume in Practice through RQF Descriptors and Volume in Practice; SCQF Descriptors and Scottish Credit Culture; Constructive Alignment without Theatre; Articulation, Dual Awards, and Misrepresentation; Scottish and rUK Applicant Communication, and finish on Scottish and rUK Applicant Communication. Each course has a question, a method, and a submission. In this field, students apply the method of the subject to a defined problem and defend the result. Reading is a core text, a case or dataset, and a critique. The artefact a marker expects is a submission that shows the method, the evidence, and the limit of the claim. The award is built so that a graduate can do the following in practice: Map outcomes and volume between RQF and SCQF with residual-risk notes Distinguish internal mapping from credit-rating decisions Write a partnership annex that Ofqual-facing auditors can follow Teaching assumes the student can read a source, attempt a problem before the seminar, and revise after feedback. Attendance at live seminars is part of the design. The capstone or final course must use the methods of the earlier courses; a project that ignores them does not pass. The pages for each course name the topics that are examined. Those topics are the syllabus. A brochure line is not a substitute for them.
Fifteen credits over nine months in four short modules: descriptor literacy, volume and assessment, partnership risk, and a supervised mapping dossier. Dual pathway. Marketing must say ‘mapping practice’, never ‘SCQF listed’.

| UOB601 | RQF Descriptors and Volume in Practice RQF Descriptors and Volume in Practice (UOB601) is a 3-credit course on PGCert RQF/SCQF Mapping and Credit Practice, with 30 notional learning hours. By the end, students can apply the method of the subject to a defined problem and defend the result, using RQF Descriptors and Volume in Practice as the working context rather than a generic management example. The course is taught in three movements. First, students establish the terms and the decision the course is about. Second, they apply the method to a case, dataset, text, or design and compare it with a weaker alternative. Third, they revise the work after feedback and state what the conclusion cannot support. Preparation uses a core text, a case or dataset, and a critique. Seminar time is for the decision, not for reading the materials aloud. Assessment is a submission that shows the method, the evidence, and the limit of the claim. A pass requires a clear method, evidence a marker can check, and an explicit limit. Credit is not awarded for summary alone.
